- First, can you please introduce yourself & tell us your role in the band.
I’m Corey Taylor and I’m a vocalist for Pariah
- With so many bands emerging in today’s scene, how do you believe Pariah stands out?
I think Pariah stands out because we all try to be as original as possible with our song structure and lyrical content. We try to merge many genres into one song often too. - Can you give us a brief history on Pariah?
The band was founded in 2010 -2011 I’m not sure to be honest, with Chris, Omar, Zach and Garret. Then around the end of 2011 Omar recruited me as a second vocalist in addition to Jillian the second bassist we’ve had. She didn’t quite get everything down in time so she decided to leave the band. We played our first show October 2012 which didn’t exactly go how we’d expected, and we played without a bassist. After that we had Clawz Bassist and he was great but there were some musical differences so we let him go. Finally our current bassist Marvin Montano joined the band and he’s been amazing so far! - How did you pick the name for the band?
Pariah is an outcast. The word itself represents something that isn’t taken kindly to society and is put down for being itself. Musically (and as people), We are the Pariah. There’s no scene for our music, we’re a group of hard working individuals who strive to reinvent the term for “Heavy Music” in general. We’re the farthest thing from anything you’d typically hear now a days, and it’s going to stay that way as long as we’re writing music. - If you could pick three words to describe your band, what words would you pick?
Heavy, Motivated, Hardworking - What has been the biggest accomplishment for the band to date?
Playing at Café 611 or recording Methodical Insanity - Pariah recently released “Methodical Insanity”, can you tell me the inspiration behind the song?
The inspiration behind Methodical Insanity became what it is because of what drives us to do what we do. As different people we have different opinions in life, which means some people have the nerve to think that we’re insane for thinking the way we do (or doing what we do!). So in other words, we’re “Insane” for a reason, we’re not like this for no reason, we have a method to our insanity (hence the name Methodical Insanity). - What is the band’s process in terms of songwriting?
We always try to write about things that are personal to us but also relatable to the listener. Zach and Chris composed(S) the lyrics and instrumentals for all of our songs and Marvin (being the new bassist) had to find his own groove into our songs, and being the type of bassist he is adds a funk/groove element to our music, which is exactly what we’re looking for; And the vocals are normally the last thing to be added to the song. 9. What are Pariah’s plans for 2013 and beyond?
We definitely plan to have at least one more song out before 2013 is over and play a few more shows. We always try to find shows anywhere as long as people hear our music and enjoy it that’s personally all that matters to me! Were actually working on releasing our EP in the near future but we don’t have a definite release date yet unfortunately even though we have like 7-8 songs written for it and 2 or 3 unfinished ones. 10. Is there anything else you would like to add?
We are Pariah and we love you, thank you to all of you who’ve supported us this far we deeply appreciate it, check us out on Facebook and YouTube, we’re just a couple of dudes following our dreams!
