#12 – My Aim To Farewell – RichardThinks Band Of The Week

This week’s RichardThinks Band Of The Week feature is a very exciting one. For the first time ever, we are featuring a band outside of our region, all the way from Turin, Italy. We are pleased to welcome My Aim To Farewell as this week’s RichardThinks’ Band Of The Week. We sat down with guitarist, Marco of My Aim To Farewell to discuss the band, their latest release, “Black City”, and much more. Be sure to tune in every Tuesday for a new RichardThinks Band Of The Week!

  1. First, can you please introduce yourself & tell us your role in the band.
Hi, my name’s Marco and I play guitar for My Aim To Farewell.
  2. With so many bands emerging in today’s scene, how do you believe My Aim To Farewell stands out?
I think that starting from Europe can help us to distinguish ourselves from the thousands of young American bands coming out these days, which mainly play the same song over and over again. We have different influences coming from a different musical background, but we put them together in order to get a sound that can compete with the American market.
  3. Can you give us a brief history on My Aim To Farewell?
MATF took it’s first steps in summer 2010, when we established a stable line up. We started writing music and playing live around our country, then we recorded a 2 songs promo in 2012 at Fusix Studio, shot our first 2 videos, and headed back into the studio last year to record “Black City EP”.

  4. How did you pick the name for the band?
My Aim To Farewell is a metaphorical name that can be seen as a “memento mori”: whatever you do in your life, keep in mind that your last aim is to say goodbye to this world in a respectable way.

  5. If you could pick three words to describe your band, what words would you pick?
    Heavy, Melodic, and Persistant.

  6. What has been the biggest accomplishment for the band to date?
I don’t like to speak about accomplishments, because if you’re a musician you can never say “ok I made it”. Let’s just say that sharing the stage with bands as While She Sleeps and Upon This Dawning here in Italy was pretty cool. But the best is definitely yet to come.

  7. The band recently released the new EP “Black City”, what inspired the name for the EP?
The “Black City” is Turin, Italy, the city we all are from: according to some legends and old storytelling, it’s considered one of the centers of the black magic with London and S.Francisco, and the streets of the city center are full of creepy architectures and sculptures that create a sense of anxiety in those who roam in.

  8. Is there a particular song on the EP that means the most to you?
Yeah, Dead Weight is definitely my favorite because it’s a heavy track, and it has a very powerful structure and chorus. I think it’s the song we worked the most on and we’re all pretty satisfied with it.

  9. There are two remastered tracks on the EP, can you explain why the band decided to re-master the songs and put them on this EP?
There are lots of reasons for that. Bilateral and Bluemeth were our first songs ever recorded and even if they may sound a little different from the other ones, we still consider them as the pillar of MATF’s musical work. Moreover, many people get to know us thanks to our first two videoclips, which were shot for these two songs, so I guess they would be happy to find them on our EP.

  10. The band shot a video for “Dead Weight”, can you tell me a little about the video?
“Dead Weight” video was completely realized by us, we embraced a sort of DIY philosophy: we were unsatisfied of our first medias because we couldn’t find anyone here that worked the way we wanted. Our vocalist Giovanni took care of the whole thing and I have to say that the result is pretty rad!

  11. What’s next for the band in 2014?
2014 will be a good year for MATF. We became part of one of the most important Italian booking agency and we will start touring Italy and hopefully Europe. Meanwhile we will have the EP out and we’re gonna promote our music as much as we can, in order to find a label to get signed with.
  12. Is there anything else you would like to add?
