Richmond, Virginia metal band Lamb Of God kicked off a six-day tour that hit most of the northeast this past week. The mini tour was to promote their seventh studio album, entitled “Resolution”, and last night in D.C was the final stop. Fans anxiously lined up around the 9:30 Club, in the freezing cold no less, to be one of the first to be let in for the show. Even a man dressed in a chicken suit showed up for the show! The doors opened promptly at seven and fans eagerly piled into the 9:30 Club to see the show.
Promptly at 7:30, the opening bands began; the openers were Make Like Murder, Too Late The Hero and The Acacia Strain. All the bands each brought a great show warming up the crowd for the headliner, Lamb Of God. The lead singer of Too Late The Hero even broke his foot jumping off the stage! The Acacia Strain, in particular, brought an explosive performance. The lead singer saw the man in the chicken suit and demanded the man to be crowd surfing for the whole song they played.

Immediately after The Acacia Strain left the stage, the crowd could be heard enthusiastically chanting “LAMB OF GOD!” After about twenty-minute changeover, the backdrop for Lamb Of God’s stage dropped to a deafening cheer. Shortly after, the house lights turned off and Lamb Of God’s eerie space like intro began. More chants for the band began and as soon as the band walked on stage the crowd lost it. Chris Adler began with an epic drum beat that lead the rest of the band into the new song “Desolation”. Randy Blythe walked slowly on to the stage then threw a bunch of cards(?) into the crowd and immediately was sprinting up and down the stage pumping the crowd up. After “Desolation”, the band went into the new single “Ghost Walking”, the crowd formed circle pits all around the floor singing along with the band. The band flawlessly made the new songs sound great on the stage and the crowd gave the band a loud cheer of approval when they both finished. You can watch a video of “Desolation” below.
Desolation
Lamb Of God’s set list consisted a collection of songs that covered their entire career (sadly No Burn The Priest!) and lead singer Randy Blythe was energetic performing them as if they were being played for the first time. Randy dedicated “Now You’ve Got Something To Die For” to all the men and women that are currently serving the country as well, truly a class act. Before playing “Ruin”, he took the time to remember late Gwar guitarist, Cory Smoot, and dedicated the song to him.
Set To Fail
The crowd was exploding left and right with each song, the band even played a few more songs off their new album, “The Undertow” and “The Number Six”. As stated before, the band did an amazing job bringing the song to life on stage. Particular during the main set closing song “Laid To Rest”, it felt as every person in the venue screamed “SEE WHO GIVES A FUCK!” Once the song ended, the crowd was begging for one more song.
Not a minute later, Lamb Of God returned to the stage to give the crowd more. Delivering an epic three-song encore that consisted of “In Your Words”, “Redneck”, and finally the classic “Black Label”. Randy sent two final dedications that night, the first being “Redneck” whom he dedicated to his wife. The second, during the bridge of “Black Label, was to the Washington Redskins! He also added that he KNOWS they will make it to the Super Bowl next year; needless to say the crowd erupted with a mixture of laughter and cheer. At the end, the band said goodbye and that they look forward to returning this upcoming summer. The whole show was truly a ferocious, chaotic set that was one for the books. The cards Randy threw were actually stickers for his “presidential campaign”. They said “D. Randall Blythe, President 2012. Fuck the dumb shit. Let’s get real here.” LOL Fantastic show, great review!
thanks to Jon for the reply. I actually brought randy 750 of those stickers all the way from boulder, CO. Gave them to him before the show, got pictures with him….must admit most amazing concert ever! Was front gate, and my ribs will feel it for a week to come!
