[CONCERT REVIEW] Mindless Self Indulgence Make Triumphant Return To Baltimore

New York synthpunk band, Mindless Self Indulgence returned to Baltimore, Maryland, after a three year hiatus this past Tuesday at Rams Head Live. Having announced a reunion tour in October of last year, many fans (myself included) had been anticipating the show for months. With fans lining up at the doors of Rams Head Live as early as nine in the morning and other fans dressed up as characters featured on the album cover of 2000’s “Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy“, the anticipation in the air could be sliced with a knife. The show also featured Jimmy Urine’s wife’s band “Morningwood” who was on their final tour as a band. Morningwood’s set was heralded by an announcement, right before they took the stage, over the speakers telling the crowd it was the fifth to final show for Morningwood as a band.

Lead vocalist, Chantal Claret & the rest of Morningwood’s stage presence was in top form, never once slowing down the energy of their performance. Morningwood threw on one of the best performances I had seen in an opening band in ages. Chantal Claret, easily one of the most energetic frontwoman had insane stage antics, from doing acrobatics on stage to bringing her husband Jimmy Urine on stage for the song “Take Off Your Clothes” (ironically doing the exact opposite),  to going into the crowd herself and having the crowd kneel down with her then jump up in the air was incredible. It was definitely an excellent show to say goodbye to fans of the  Baltimore and the surrounding areas with. RichardThinks.org wishes Morningwood well on all of the members’ future endeavors. Footage of Morningwood bringing Jimmy Urine of Mindless Self Indulgence on stage can be viewed below.

Not even a minute after Morningwood left the stage, the crowd began chanting “MSI! MSI! MSI!” and began stomping on the ground, causing the venue to sound like it was about to collapse from the anticipation. A quick changeover and tuning of the instruments, the stage lights turned off, signaling the intro to MSI’s set. With a cheeky intro featuring “The Start Spangled Banner”, Mindless Self Indulgence into their hit “Shut Me Up” to the crowd’s delight. Throughout the evening MSI proved, despite the three year hiatus, they still had plenty of tricks up their sleeve and that the hiatus had not slowed them down one bit. The on/offstage chaos from the band and the audience never let up for one second. Glowsticks, various items of clothing, to even an enema being thrown on stage which Jimmy Urine put in his mouth and squirted it all over the crowd! Fans that attend any of the shows on this tour can expect a very memorable set from the band, as they are back and ready to level stages across the globe. Check out future dates and updates from the band at their official website.
